What if I don’t receive the verification SMS?

When you try to create an account or log in to TurnUp, we send you a verification SMS to confirm your identity. If you don’t receive this message, don’t worry — this can usually be resolved easily.

1️⃣ Check if the number 8810/8272 is blocked on your device

Most TurnUp verification messages are sent from the short number 8810/8272. Sometimes this number gets accidentally blocked, for example after unsubscribing from an SMS service or adjusting spam settings.

Solution:
Go to your phone's settings and check if SMS number 8810/8272 is blocked.
If it is, unblock the number.

2️⃣ Run a few general checks

Didn't step 1 solve it? Go through these checks:

  • Check that no block is set on the device
  • Check that your inbox isn't full
  • Check that your phone isn't in "Do Not Disturb" mode
  • Turn your phone off completely, leave it off for about 15 minutes, then restart it. You can also enable airplane mode for 15 minutes and then turn it off again.

Still having issues? Check the device-specific settings below.

📱 iPhone/iOS

  • Check if the "Filter Unknown Senders" box is ticked under Settings > Messages. If this is enabled, you'll only be notified of messages from known senders in your contacts. Unknown messages end up in a spam, blocked, deleted, archived, or unknown SMS inbox.
  • View your blocked contacts and numbers via Settings > Messages > Blocked.

🤖 Android

  • Open your SMS app and check if the spam filter is turned on: go to the menu or 3-dot icon > Settings > Spam filter, top right of the screen.
  • Go to Phone Settings > Apps > select the app you want to receive messages from and check that "Allow notifications" is enabled.
  • Go to Phone Settings and check if "Developer options" is enabled. Turn this off if needed.

3️⃣ Request the verification SMS again

Have you gone through all the steps above? Try logging in or activating your account again. A new verification SMS will be sent automatically.

4️⃣ Still not working?

Followed everything, but still no SMS? We're happy to help further.

Want to try one more thing yourself? Put the SIM card in a different device. This rules out a handset-related issue.

Final tip: Also check that your phone has sufficient network coverage and that you are receiving SMS messages from other numbers.
